Learn How To Pray And How To Talk To God

7 Lessons on Prayer on the model how Jesus taught on Prayer

1. Stay within the bounds of certain general principles of prayer and you will learn:

1)   How to begin Luke 11:2

“Lord, teach us to pray,” vs 1 is a good prayer, and a very needful one, for Jesus Christ only can teach us, by his word and Spirit, how to pray. Lord, teach me what it is to pray; Lord, stir up and quicken me to the duty; Lord, direct me what to pray for; teach me what I should say.

“When ye pray, say” – And what he said to them is undoubtedly said to us also. We are therefore here directed, not only to imitate this in all our prayers, but to use this very form of prayer.

2)   Whom to address vs 2 John14:13-15; John15:16; John16:23-26

Message Bible says it like this: “When you pray, say, Father, Reveal who you are. Set the world right. Or
“When you pray, say this: Father, let your name be kept holy. Let your kingdom come. GodsWord
“Pray in this way: ‘Father, help us to honor your name. Come and set up your kingdom. CEV
Any way, make it a point to revere the Father in heaven.

3)  Whose name to revere Lk11:2

4)   Whose will to obey Lk11:2

5)   Whose interest to serve and have at heart Lk11:2; Mt.22:37

6)   What to ask for Lk 11:2-4

7)   How to keep clear channels to God Lk11:4; 1John 3:21-22

8)   How to live with our fellowmen Lk11:4; Mark11:25-26; Eph.4

9)   How to live with God Lk11: 4; 1Jn.1:3-9; Jn17:2-3

10) How to live free from sin Lk11:4; Rom.6:16-23; Rom8:12-13

2. Be bold as the friends of God, importune, urge with frequent solicitation, be tenacious in purpose, stubbornly adhering to a purpose; continue steadily, incessant, refuse to give an inch; be desperate, demanding, insistent, eager and troublesome in pursuit of what God has promised. Lk11:5-8; Lk 18:1-8; Hebr. 4:14-16; Hebr. 10:19-23, Hebr.10:36

3. Believe in and have confidence in the absolute certainty of answered prayer with no wavering or doubt as to the final outcome Lk.11:9-10; Mt.7:7-11; Lk17:20; Lk21:21; Mk.9:23; Mk.11:22-24; John14:12-15; John15:7, 16; John16:23-26; Hebr. 11:6, Jas.1:5-8; 1John 3:19-22; 1John 5:14-15.

4. Believe in and have confidence in the infinite Fatherhood of God, realizing that He is at least as interested in our welfare as an earthly parent, that He will give all things which are best to His children and that He will give exactly what is asked accordingly to His will and Word.Lk.11:11-13; Matt.7:7-11; 1John 3:19-22; 1John3:19-22; 1John5:14-15; Psalm 84:11.

5. Believe in and know beyond all possible doubt that it is the will of God for His children to get what they will and want. Lk11:9-13; Psalm23:1; Psalm34:9-10; Psalm 84:11; Matt.17:20; Matt.21:21; Mk11:22-24; John 15:7.

6. Believe in and ask God for the Holy Spirit, the all-inclusive gift, who will enable us to pray and get answers. Lk11:13; Rom.8:26-28; Eph.2:18; Eph.6:18; Jude 20; John 7:37-39.

7. Believe in and never question it, that God will answer each person who prays right, not just a few special ones Luke 11:9-13; Matt.7:7-11; Mk.9:23; Mk11:24; John 14:12-15; Rom 2:11.

Anyone who learns and practices these lessons well, will get answers.

3 Habits That Will Ruin Your Destiny

3 Habits That Will Ruin Your Destiny

by Olga Hermans

God can use anybody with the right heart, anybody who is willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill his divine destiny. Sometimes we hear these great testimonies of people who came from various backgrounds; right out of poverty, God cleaned them up inside and out and brought them before great men.

God never grades your destiny according where you are from or what you have done in the past. He sees everybody through the veil of the blood of Jesus, so He always sees you at your best. He sees you through your potential “in Christ”.
God always looks at the heart of people; if we have a humble heart before Him, He can use to do great exploits in the earth.

Let’s have a look at how we, ourselves can “destroy” our destiny.

1. Security in material things; the things of this world.

There are some destiny-destroying heart issues that you and I may have to deal with. Areas in our life that you and I should look at because they have the potential to rob us of God’s best for our life.

Remember, the rich young ruler? Unlike Peter, who had personality issues that needed to be worked out, the rich young ruler had a destiny-destroying heart issue that brought his potential to a halt.

He thought he had done it all, didn’t he? He said he had done it all “from his youth”? Have you ever met somebody who has done everything right in his youth or his/her life? The teenage years mess up most of us, isn’t it?

Jesus gave that young ruler an opportunity to change his ways; he had a choice to make right there then. Yet, he passed up that divine opportunity.

2. A lack of trust.

I believe that Jesus would have taken personal care for this young man if he would have given it all for the sake of the call. Jesus would have blessed him above and beyond. Mark 10:29-30

This young ruler didn’t have anything to lose, but he didn’t see it that way. This was an issue of trust, isn’t it? He just couldn’t do it, because he couldn’t see what Jesus saw. Mark 10:22

He didn’t trust Jesus as His Provider and this destroyed his destiny.

3. The love of mammon/money

A lot of people read this story and only read the money part of it. Jesus took this opportunity to teach the disciples a lesson, because Jesus had never told the disciples to sell all their earthly possessions. They were told to follow Jesus but not to sell what they had and give it to the poor.

“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” The disciples and many people today are astonished on this statement that Jesus made. The disciples weren’t poor either; what was Jesus saying here?

The difference was that they all had some money, but they were following Jesus first. Jesus doesn’t ask of people to sell everything they have before they can be saved. No, but if we put our trust in our riches and not in God first and foremost, it can destroy our destiny.

1Tim.6:10 don’t say that money is the root of all evil; it says the love of money is the root of all evil. The love of money is a destiny-destroyer.

Can You Trust God With Your Future?

God is a God of abundance; He has so much for us. We have no idea!

Usually we look for crumbs under the table; He has prepared a feast for us in the royal banquet hall. We wonder if He remembers who we are, He has been calling our name. We wait for Him to notice our plight; He waits for us to take His hand. We see ourselves in the dark because we’ve done something wrong; He sees us in the light because we’ve done something right.

We don’t recognize the answers to our prayers; He moves powerfully at our request. We have trouble trusting Him fully with our future; He has a future for us better than the one we dream of for ourselves. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1Corinthians 2:9)

We worry so about our future because we can never be completely certain about it. A single event can change our lives; for the better we hope, for the worse we fear. When we ask Him about it, He sometimes reveals specifics. But most of the time He doesn’t give us anything more than the assurance that our future is secure in His hands. He shows us that we have a future and this simple knowledge must be enough for us.

You have a great future ahead and it will be reached as you move out of your past and walk step-by-step with God as he reveals Himself to you in the present.

Just as you should not live in the past, resist the urge to live in the future also. Put your future in God’s hands, trusting that He will never withhold anything good from you and then stop worrying about it. This doesn’t mean a trumpet will sound announcing that you are spiritually immature if you find yourself concerned about the future.

God is not asking you to be perfect. He is asking you to be perfect in you. God is not asking you to have your whole future figured out. He is asking you to trust that He has a future planned. Thinking too much about the future can keep you from fully living the life God has given you now.

This doesn’t mean you can’t have goals, but some people have goals that are so strong they sacrifice everything to achieve them, even their family and God. Instead of allowing the goal to come from God, the goal itself becomes god.

Simply follow Him every day on that narrow pathway and you will be free. Free to trust Him for every step. Free to be all He made you to be. Free to do what He called you to do. Free to enjoy all He has for you. You will walk in a dept of love, peace, fulfillment and joy you never thought possible.

You don’t have to have you life all figured out; you only have to take one step at a time walking with God. And every time you put your hands in God’s hand, you’ll know you’ve got a solid hold on your future.

A few Sundays ago my pastor CLA Church gave us these 10 areas for you trust God in:

Here they are :

1. Trust Him when he blesses you and not to become self-sufficient.

2. Trust Him with your future.

3. Trust Him with your heart.

4. Trust Him when you go through a family issue.

5. Trust Him when you get into trouble

6. Trust Him when you are tempted.

7. Trust Him when you face persecution.

8. Trust Him when you are disappointed

9. Trust Him for restoration

10. Trust Him when it comes to faith

Our Answer to The Call

Our Answer to The Call

by Olga Hermans

There are things in times past that are not that satisfying to us any more. God is giving people a deeper hunger for a greater relationship with Him. He is igniting in us a fire to seek Him and to be intimate with Him and to really know Him more and more.

The end is coming soon and there is much work to be done, we need to choose to come closer to God which means to a higher place in God. Everybody has a calling to fulfill in this earth. There is a spiritual supply on the inside of us that the Body Christ needs. There are prayers to pray and places to fill.

Some of us made the choice to draw back from the call of God on our lives. Last Sunday our pastor preached on the wells in our lives that have dried up and we need to dig them up again and let the living water flow out of them again. Some of those wells are waiting for us to be digged up again. Let’s make a quality choice right now to dig up those wells again on the inside of us that we need to give to the Body of Christ.

Some believers chose to draw back because at some time in their life, they responded to it and things didn’t work out as they hoped. They jumped out to do what they thought the Lord was drawing them to do and they ran straight into a wall.

Let me tell you this; don’t worry about it. Let’s look at the life Moses; we all know that he was called as a prophet and as a deliverer for Israel. He sensed that that call within his heart. But, what did he do? He murdered an Egyptian and though that was the way to do it. But that was not what God had in mind, was it? So, Moses went to the backside of the desert to get things straightened out. God helped him though and in the end , Moses fulfilled his role in the plan of God.

Then there is Samuel; he had trouble at first understanding how to respond to the voice of God. The first times he heard the Lord speak, Samuel thought he heard the voice of somebody that he trusted, Eli. So, instead of responding to God, he went to Eli.

But God didn’t give up on him. He just kept calling until Samuel got it right. That is very encouraging isn’t it? It is wonderful that how many mistakes we make, if we keep responding to God’s call the best we know how, He’ll keep working with us.

Just like He did with Moses and Samuel, He will stick with us until we get it right. We can learn something very important from men like Moses and Samuel abut responding to the call of the Lord:

When you sense the Spirit’s call, go to God first and find out exactly what He wants you to do and find out exactly what he wants you to do.
1. Don’t just jump out and come up with something on your own (like Moses did).
2. Don’t just go talk to a friend about it (like Samuel did.

Or listen to another message or read another book on the subject. Draw near to God. get His wisdom by fellowshipping with Him. That’s what God does. When He is ready to promote us to walk in higher places of power and authority, the first thing He does is call us to Himself.

The Kind Of Praying That Sets The Wheels Of Revival In Motion

The following excerpt is written by Sidlow Baxter:

The Kind Of Praying That Sets The Wheels Of Revival In Motion

We need a revival of intercessory prayer among God’s own people. We do not pray enough. Besides intensifying their private prayer life, Christians should band themselves together to lay hold upon God for revival in our own land and in every land.

Our most pressing need at this moment is to ask God to give more mighty prayer to all who can have at heart the speedy evangelization of every unreached soul – prayer that is strong, prevailing, believing, God-moving, devil-routing, sinner-saving, believer-sanctifying, Christ-exalting, worker-producing and money -finding!

We need prayer that takes all we are and have, to offer it to God, as it took all that Jesus had, on Calvary, to give us the right to pray!

But where in all the world are we going to get prayer that will do that? – the kind that Daniel offered, which shook the Babylonian Empire from end to end, bringing Almighty God into His rightful pre-eminence!

Where are we to get the kind of prayer that Nehemiah offered, which set rulers running after him with men, money, and materials, to help rebuild the walls of ruined Jerusalem?

It was God Himself Who inspired the prayer of Nehemiah, the prayer that made Jerusalem a new city. He drove His servant to his knees by the burden of a great concern for ruined Jerusalem. This seems to be the way God works.

And will God give this kind of prayer today? Yes, through the Holy Spirit, God can give us the hurricane kind of prayers that make things move – when nothing else can make them move!

He only begins to feel alarm when a soul begins to offer before God the prayer that is Spirit-inspired, and which was born in the very heart of God Himself.

It is prayer shot through with the very blood and passion of the Son of God, filled with the power and persistence of the Holy Ghost, loaded with a burdening sense of the church’s plight, and the world’s appalling need – that sets the wheels of revival in motion!

God save us from trying to turn these wheels by our own efforts! It cannot be done. Let us beg God now for this kind of praying – prayer straight from God, to straighten out every tangle and to meet every need!

When we offer HIS prayer, as put into our spirits by the Holy Spirit, there will be no such thing as unanswered prayer. Every prayer will be as almighty as God, because His nature will be in them.

The difficulties we face at the present time will vanish, and we shall not speak as if God were bankrupt!

God will then be seen in our lives. His power will flow through us in flood tides of blessings to others. Miracles will happen in every sphere that we touch. Every need will be met; and the devil will be defeated.

May this heaven-born flame be lighted afresh in the hearts of the regenerated throughout the world.

Amen!

Choose To Be A Doer Of The Word In 2011

We can read in the Old Testament that man has always had a struggle with the effects of the curse that came upon the earth after Adam made a very bad choice and listened to what the devil had said to his wife. Bad Choice, wouldn’t you say? We all are reaping the consequences. But, praise the Lord, Jesus came and delivered us from the curse.

If that is so; we all know that, that is true; why then is the curse still evidence in the lives of so many believers? Why is that? So many Christians are still in bondage.

There are open doors to deception

In the first chapter of James, the Word of God reveals a major doorway through which Satan can come to deceive us. In the verse 22 we read: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

Every time some portion of the Word of God is quickened to your heart and you fail (or refuse) to act on it, you leave a door wide open for Satan to enter your life with some form of darkness. Actually, it is like this word says it; you choose to be the cause of your own deception.

You know. Every time when you read the Word and fail to choose to act on the Word, you are saying by your actions something you would probably never say with your lips, i.e., “I don’t believe God’s Word is true and I have a better plan.”

At that moment, you made a very bad choice because you took the work out of the hands of the devil. He doesn’t have to sow doubt or unbelief in your heart about the integrity of God’s Word. You did it yourself. You made it easy for satan to bring the effects of the curse into that area of your life. James 2:17

You’re right “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” Hebr. 11:6 But without corresponding action, that faith is powerless to help you. In fact, the word translated “hearers” in James 1:22 is the same Greek word translated “hearing” in Romans 10:17.

So, James is not talking about hearing with your natural ears but rather hearing with your heart, which is precisely how faith comes. Yet, by choosing not to “do” that Word, you can still be deceived.

How Can You Do The Word?

First, don’t ever let Satan deceive you into thinking your faith isn’t important. Let’s go back to James 1:22-25 and read on to verse 25 to find the answer.

That verse says, “Being not a forgetful hearer but a doer.” A hearer of what? A hearer of the “perfect law of liberty” or in other words, God’s Word. Thus, you could say, “Being not a forgetful hearer of God’s Word, but a doer.”

Now let’s look at the next key to doing the Word. We find it in the very next verse: James 1:26

Here the Bible warns us of another source of deception. First it told us that deception comes when you hear the Word but don’t do it. Now it adds this truth: If you think you have it all together spiritually but don’t keep your tongue from speaking things contrary to God’s Word, then you’re fooling yourself.

Satan will try to deceive us into believing that thoughts and words are unimportant. Don’t we all eventually say what we’ve been thinking? Jesus said we do in Luke 6:45

The two principle factors which determine whether or not you become a doer of the Word are:

  1. What you think upon and
  2. What you speak

If you make the choice to meditate on God’s Word and then speak God’s Word, you will tap into the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe. And that power can and will change your behavior. You will become a doer of the Word, not by your own strength and resolve, but by the power of God that resides in His Word.

Consistent doing is always preceded by consistent thinking and consistent speaking. A failure to do the Word, however, leads to deception. And as we’ve seen, deception leads to something very different from prosperity and success.

7 Practical Values To Help You Make Choices in 2011

Happy New Year!

How the Choices In Your Decision Making can bring Glory to God

Did you know 90% of the choices you make as a Christian involve areas where Scripture says surprisingly little? The Bible doesn’t say anything about who to marry or what house to buy, how you spend your free time, how many kids you should have; there are just no explicit instructions in the Bible.

Of course Scripture forbids all clear-cut sins such as lying, cheating, stealing, murdering, or committing adultery. The Bible also tells us to live by faith and not by our circumstances. Christians don’t question whether they should read the Bible, pray, or tell others about Christ. Scripture is very explicit about those things.

There are, however, a lot of questions that seem to fall somewhere in the middle. These are all those issues dealing with Christian freedom—things that fall between what God prohibits and what He commands. What entertainment is acceptable? What kind of music is okay? What can a Christian do or not do on Sunday? What about what you wear, what you eat and drink, or how you spend your free time—what does the bible say about those things?

When you run your choices through the following principles from God’s Word, you will find both clarity and true freedom to live your life to God’s glory.

1.    Will it help me spiritually?
1 Cor. 10:23
A “profitable” thing is useful, helpful, or to your advantage to do; and the idea behind “edify” is to build up spiritually. So based on this verse, ask yourself, “Will doing this enhance my spiritual life? Will it cultivate godliness? Will it build me up spiritually?” If not, you should seriously question whether that behavior is the best choice.

2.    Will it bring bondage?1 Cor. 6:12
In the second part of this verse, Paul is saying, “I will not be brought under the power of anything.” If what you are considering can be habit-forming, why pursue it? Don’t allow yourself to be in bondage to anything or anyone. You are a bond-servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, and Him alone.

3.    Will it defile God’s temple?
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
Don’t do anything that you know will harm your body or bring shame—it is the only instrument you have to glorify God. Romans 6:13

4.    Will it cause anyone to stumble?
1 Cor. 8:8-9
This is the principle of love. Rom.13:10 If you know that your choice—what you consider “in bounds” and approved—causes another Christian to stumble and sin, love that brother or sister enough to restrict your own freedom. That is not very popular in our self-absorbed society, but it is biblical.

5.    Will it further the cause of evangelism? 1 Cor.10:32-33
Whether you are aware of it, what you allow or disallow in your behavior affects your witness for Christ, and the world is watching. It’s an issue of testimony—what your life says about God. Your testimony either tells the truth about God, or it tells a lie. The choices you make in areas where Scripture speaks principally rather than specifically should reflect your concern not to bring offense to God’s reputation but to bring Him praise instead.

6. Will it violate my conscience? Rom. 14:23
1Cor.10:25-29 contains three references to abstaining from a certain practice “for conscience sake.” Never train yourself to violate your conscience. If your conscience is troubled by what you consider, don’t do it. If you aren’t sure about it, don’t do it. It is hard to overstate the value of a clean conscience, but it is worth keeping your conscience clear so that your relationship to God will not be hindered. If you’ll keep yourself in prayer and the study of God’s Word, you will inform your conscience so you can “walk as children of light…finding out what is acceptable to the Lord” Eph. 5:8, 10

7.    Will it bring glory to God? 1 Cor. 10:31
That verse is clearly both the summary and the goal of all the principles listed above. Isn’t our heart’s cry to glorify our Lord and Savior with our lives? Think about your decision—Will He be glorified, honored, and praised through it?
So the next time you face a decision where Scripture is less than specific or overt, run it through the principles above and enjoy your freedom in Christ. Happy New Year from The Choice Driven Life to You!

#1 New Year Resolution

The New Year

People have a way of looking at the end of one year and towards the beginning of another as a way of encouraging themselves to start making changes.  If I were to make a New Year’s resolution, I would resolve to make the kind of change that would help people receive even more and more of the love of God.  I know from past experience, with a resolution like this, not only would I be able to make key changes in my own life, but I would be able to help other people make changes in their lives as well.

And wouldn’t you know that as I’ve continued to press in for more change, I have discovered one of the most powerful teachings I have ever received, and it’s on the direct relationship between the blessings of God and the way we treat people.  This revelation was triggered in me by Luke 6:38, where Jesus said: [Read more…]

8 Guidelines Toward True Forgiveness for 2011

What would you say is the single, most outstanding thing about God? What’s His most important characteristic? Some people would say it’s His power, His holiness or His goodness or how much He loves us and so forth. But I believe God Himself would give a totally different answer.

In Exodus 33 Moses asks God to show him His glory.  The word “glory” refers to the heaviest, biggest, grandest thing about someone. It’s the sum total of their worth.
So what Moses was actually saying was, “Lord, I want to see the weightiest thing about You. I want to know Your grandest attributes.” What did God say to him in response?

Exodus 34:6-7 tells us, “The Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.”

As we approach the end of another year we begin to reflect. It is during these reflections that we come to hard choices and decisions.

One of those choices that we have to make is forgiving people that have hurt us. It is a choice to make that decision. Show mercy instead of resentment toward that person. It will set YOU free!

Here are 8 guidelines to get started.

  1. Recognize your emotion. Know exactly how you feel about what happened and be able to articulate what about the situation is not OK.
  2. Choose what you are going to do. Make a commitment to yourself to do what you have to do to feel better. Forgiveness is for you and not for anyone else.
  3. Know that forgiving is not pardoning. Forgiveness does not necessarily mean reconciliation with the person that hurt you, or condoning of their action. You don’t have to go on vacation with that person. You want peace especially in your own heart.
  4. Get insight and understanding in what is happening or has happened. Choose to get the right perspective on what is happening. Recognize that your primary distress is coming from the hurt feelings, thoughts that are going on and not what offended you or hurt you two minutes – or ten years – ago.
  5. You have to choose your reaction to the situation. Don’t let the situation rule over you and throw you around.  Yield to the Holy Spirit who is always there to help and guide you into the right direction.
  6. Understand that you are the only one that controls you. Give up expecting things from other people, or your life, that they do not choose to give you.
  7. Choose to not replay it over and over in your mind. Draw near to God; He is your help in time of need.
  8. Move forward in life and not dwell on the past. Remember that a life well lived is your best revenge. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, and thereby giving the person who caused you pain power over you, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.

This way you can enter 2011 with a clean slate and conscience.
Remember:

To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.

When I Fall, I Shall Arise

Tonight I was reading this update of a friend of mine on facebook “Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time”. This New Year is a great time to start!

It made me think, just as it probably makes you think. There are choices we have to make and at the beginning of each year we like to make new resolutions in a  various areas of our lives.

Anybody can fall down, cry and quit. Anybody can fear and hide. If you’ve got God, you don’t have to do that. You can lift your head, set your face like a flint and keep the faith. You can speak to whatever problem is rearing its head at you, resist the devil and get victory. [Read more…]
