God Wants You to Be Healthy and Whole
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues,
preaching the good news of the kingdom,
and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
Matthew 4:23
God has always desired for us to be healthy and to be healed if we are not healthy. We find His provision for our health in both the Old and New Covenants. Yes. Though many are unaware of it, under the Old Covenant, God provided healing for His people.
In the story of the crippled woman who was healed on the Sabbath, Jesus expresses God’s desire to heal (Luke13:10-13). This is a great example for us: The crippled woman did not glorify God before she was healed, nor did she give God glory for her infirmity. She gave God all the glory after she was healed. There is no New Testament example of people glorifying God for sickness, so we shouldn’t do that either. The woman didn’t have to ask Jesus for her healing. The moment Jesus saw her bent over form, He called to her and told her she was loosed from her infirmity.
Jesus also explained to the Sabbath crowd that God had not bound the woman, but rather Satan. In the account of this same healing found in Luke 13:16, Jesus plainly reveals that Satan is the oppressor behind the woman’s infirmity. This woman had a right to be whole—she was a daughter of Abraham and healing was one of the benefits in the covenant God made with Abraham (Deuteronomy 28).
There were religious people in the synagogue who objected to the woman’s healing (Luke 13:14). Because they were spiritually blinded by their religion and tradition, they reacted in anger because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day. Their tradition held that the Sabbath was instituted for man’s rest, based on the fact that after six days of creating, God rested. But in Mark 2:27, Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.” Jesus’ intention was to set people free from the bondage of tradition by healing on the Sabbath.
In Matthew 15:29-31, we find yet another example of Jesus healing multitudes of people for the glory of God. The Amplified Bible says of the people’s reaction to the healings, “They recognized God.” People recognize God when the sick are healed. That is one of the reasons why so many turn to God in the huge healing crusades with Reinhardt Bonnke and other ministers of the gospel. The act of healing cannot be separated from God who is doing the healing work.
Being fully confident in our hearts of God’s loving and caring nature will lead us to the conclusion that He desires for all of us to be well and healthy.
Will you choose to believe God for your health and well-being? Now that’s the choice-driven life!
