Prayer: The Breakfast of Champions

Prayer: The Breakfast of Champions

By: Olga Hermans

“If I fail to spend two hours in prayer each morning, the devil gets the victory through the day.
I have so much business I cannot get on without spending three hours daily in prayer.”
~ Martin Luther

Prayer is the backbone of a successful life and many successful people know that very well. They take their time to be still and envision their day together with the Lord. Effective prayer will cause you to soar like an eagle in God’s plans for you.

I know people who are successful who will give credit to God, because they know that their success came from the time they spent early in the morning with their maker.

Let’s look at these points once stated by my late Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty. Why Early Morning Prayer would you say?

1.   Jesus did it

Jesus set the example for us in prayer. He got up early in the morning and found a place where He could be alone to start His day with prayer. So, if Jesus started his day with prayer, how much more do we need to start out with prayer? He taught us to go in our prayer closet; wherever your place is, is not important, as long as you can settle your heart in front of the Lord and receive from Him for the day that is ahead of you.

2.   The way you start something has a great effect on the way it ends up

If you start out communing with the Lord, there is a big chance that you will be in communion with Him throughout your day. The way you start out can have a definite effect on the way things will look in the end. When a sailboat starts out, the way the sails are set determines the direction the boat will go. The way you set your sails at the start of your day determines the course you will follow during the day.

3.   When you pray early in your day, you will get an attitude adjustment!

It has been said many times that attitude determines altitude. The pitch of an airplane determines how high it will fly. The nose needs to be turned upward to fly higher, right? It’s the same with or lives. If we haven’t set our lives in the right direction, we will continue to fly on a straight course and never gain any altitude. But when we start out by setting our affection on God, something happens and we begin to climb higher and higher.

4.   It is important to start your day with prayer because many interruptions come in the middle of the day.

You can pray through your schedule each day. Pray though each thing that you know is going to happen. Ask the Lord for direction and prioritize your activities. Many people jump out of bed, run for breakfast, go to work and sometime in the middle of the day, they might think about God. But then they might not, because their schedule is so demanding.

5.   When you are hungry for fellowship with God, you will take time for early Morning Prayer.

Some people work night shifts, which makes it difficult for them to start early in the morning. The key, however, is to set a time, preferably at the start of your day whatever that timeslot might be for you. Families are wonderful and your spouse might be the best thing for you, but there is just something about having a quiet time with the Lord. If you spend time with Him, you will be on top.

6.   Just as you would fill your gas tank before you start out on a trip, you need to fill your mind with God’s Word and prayer before you start your day.

Then you are prepared for the reversals, emotional situations and bad attitudes that you may encounter during the day. All the frustrations and hassles we face could be because we haven’t won the battle in prayer before we started the day. Problems arise and demands come up, and sometimes there is more demand than there is of you! You need to fuel up on the Word and prayer before you start your day!

7.   In Exodus 16, the Lord told the children of Israel to get their manna before the sun got hot on the ground.

Manna is Living Bread and that is Jesus. That means to get a fresh word from heaven from the Word of God before you start your day. There is just something about getting up early to gather your manna at the start of the day.  People who don’t set their sails on God early in the day many times forget about Him during the day, and they go in the power of their own flesh.

8.   When you start your time of prayer with praise to the Lord, you will receive revelation, instruction, inspiration, strength, peace, deliverance from temptation, refreshing and restoration.

People faint and become weary when they do not wait upon the Lord in a time dedicated to prayer. When people talk about how weary they are and how difficult their spiritual life is, they actually say that their prayerlife has ebbed away. Isaiah 40:28-31 tells us clearly that those that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will exchange their weakness for the strength of God.

9.   Giving God the first part of your day is part of the spiritual law of giving the first fruits. If you give God the first part of your day, He will multiply time back to you.

Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Pro 3:5-6

God will guide the path you take if you pray over it. But if you don’t acknowledge God and ask for His wisdom, He could be standing right in front of you with the answer to every problem you are facing, but you are too busy trying to solve your own problems and trying to make things happen in the flesh.

God wants to speak to you in early Morning Prayer. If you take time to listen, you will hear God speak.

When the gate of your day is guarded with prayer, the devil won’t be able to gain entrance into your life because you will be alert to his tactics. Without early morning prayer, however, people’s minds and spirits aren’t that alert to the voice of God.

But when you get up early in the morning and God speaks to you at the start of your day, it will carry you, guard you and keep you on course. I, myself, have experienced both; there were times in my life that I skipped my time with the Lord early in the morning and there is that time that I love to go in front of the Lord and open up my heart to receive from Him and leave all my cares of the day with Him. The latter is the best of course.

God will never condemn you; He loves you no matter what you have done; He is always there for you. For me; I live each day with the understanding that if it were not for God’s unconditional love and grace, I would not be where I am today.

Let us know and share with our readers how you set your time with God. Be an encouragement to others, because that is what we need. Thank you so much for doing that.

Binding the Enemy

Binding the Enemy

Satan, in the name of Jesus I bind you, and every principality, power, ruler of darkness, spiritual host of wickedness in heavenly places, every evil spirit, demon spirit, and every spirit that is not of God that has been, is now or will attempt to operate against us.

I cancel every hex, vex, spell, jinx, work of witchcraft, divination, black magic, psychic mind control, new age, sorcery, and bewitchment sent to oppose us; I cancel every attack of oppression, depression, perversion, distraction, hindrance and deception in Jesus’ Name.

I render every assignment, attack, scheme and harassment of your null, void, powerless, inactive, inoperative and ineffective against us in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. No weapon that is formed against us shall prosper, every lying tongue is silenced, and every enemy that rises up against us is smitten before our face and flees before us seven ways.

I cast you out of our lives, homes, circumstances, finances and neighbourhoods. Your works have been destroyed and we are free. Devil, everything you have stolen from us I command you to repay us now sevenfold. I speak life to every area of our lives that you have tried to destroy.

I cancel all hurt, harm, danger and accidents in our lives in the Name of Jesus. I cancel all attacks against our families to bring strife, division, hatred and rebellion, for God has given us peaceful habitation, safe dwellings and quiet resting places, and we dwell together in unity.

I cancel every attack of sickness, disease, pain and infirmity sent against us, for Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law and with His stripes we are healed. I cancel every attack against the finances of God’s Church for we are the seed of Abraham and are blessed above all nations of the earth. I call the wealth of the wicked into the hands of the righteous.

I bind, rebuke and cast out the spirits of fear, worry, doubt, anxiety and unbelief, and give them no place in our lives. I pull down strongholds, and cast down every vain and wicked imagination exalting itself against the knowledge of God and bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. I root up every plant in us that the heavenly Father has not planted and replace it with the image of God. I decree the Spirit of power, love and a sound mind establishes our thoughts in the Word of God.

I loose into our lives the anointing of God to destroy every yoke and remove every burden; the Word of God in our minds, our mouths and our hearts that God’s Kingdom will dominate the earth through us; we yield to the fruit of the Spirit and mortify the deeds of the flesh; I pray that the gifts of the Spirit will flow freely through your Church to set the captives free and edify the Church; and I decree that God’s people are enjoying the days of heaven on the earth right now, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

I Refuse to Fear

I Refuse to Fear.

I am not moved by what I see.

I am not fearful over my financial future.

God is my source of provision.

He provides cars to drive, food to eat, clothes to wear, places to live
and everything else I need in liberal supply.

I am not subject to the times.

I live in the household of faith, not the dungeon of fear.

My household is thriving, and not just surviving.

My household is flourishing and not failing.

Every bill is paid, every need is met and every debt is wiped out.

I walk by faith and not by fear, in Jesus’ Name!

7 Steps to Have Your Prayers Answered

But The People Who Know Their God Shall Prove Themselves Strong and Shall Stand Firm and Do Exploits

7 Steps to Have Your Prayers Answered

by Olga Hermans

Prayer shouldn’t be a drag. It should be the highlight of your day, starting early in the morning and then keeping an ear to the Holy Spirit throughout the entire day. Effective prayer will cause you to soar like an eagle in God’s plans for you. It is the key to tapping into the wisdom of God, which will elevate you above mediocrity and perform the “greatest exploits” spoken of in Daniel 11:32

… but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God].
Daniel 11:32 Ampl

The next steps deal with fundamental aspects of praying that gets results; that is what we want right?  If you follow these steps you can be sure of prayers that get answered.

Step 1: Decide What You Want From God.

It is very important to make a solid decision James 1:6-8 says if a man wavers, if he cannot make up his mind, he is “unstable in all his ways” and he cannot expect to receive anything from God. There are different types of prayer; we worship and we have fellowship with God, but I like to talk to you right now about getting an answer to your prayer. Are you interested?

If we are not careful, our general type of praying will becomes habitual even when we need to be specific about a certain need. If you went to a grocery store and pushed the cart up and down the aisles without buying anything, people would think something was wrong with you.If you would send your child to buy certain items and he buys just those things, he is being definite. The same is true with prayer. It would be better to pray for 2 or 3 minutes and know what you are praying about than to pray aimlessly for 2 or 3 hours.

Decide what you want from God and be definite about it!

Step 2: Read the Scriptures That Promise the Answer You Need

As we feed on His Word, we build it into our consciousness. Jesus used the Word when satan came against Him in the wilderness. Jesus used the same weapon to defeat the devil that we all have today: the Word of God. When we pray for things that are specifically promised in the Word, we can have complete confidence that He will give us what we need.

The reason people are not confident and have no faith when they pray is because they don’t know the scriptures well enough to know if what they are praying for is God’s will.

Step 3: Ask God for the Things You Want

I know, we think and hope and it is true that He knows what we need Matth. 6:8, but He also tells us to ask Him for our needs and ask it with boldness in our hearts. Matth.7:7-8
God knows alright, but don’t forget that He wants us to bring our needs to Him and ask His help. Just do it!!

Step 4: Believe That You Receive

Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him. For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]. Mark 11:23-24

Everything is provided for us in the spiritual realm. Our needs have been provided for us in Jesus. We may not be able to see them, but they are there. We need to use our faith to receive it out of the spiritual realm; faith will grasp it and create the reality of it in our life. Develop a stubborn faith that refuses to look at circumstances, that is a faith that produces results.

Step 5: Refuse to Doubt

Let every thought and desire remind and affirm that you have what you ask. Keep speaking your desires, the things that you asked for. We should not permit any mental picture of failure to remain in our mind. Never doubt for one minute that you have the answer. Tell doubt to go and get your mind on the answer.

Wipe out every image, suggestion, feeling, or thought that does not add to your faith. People have experienced great miracles and breakthroughs by doing this.

My husband and I had asked the Lord for a trip to be able to go to a Christian conference last year; we had asked this around Christmas time and the conference would be in the 1st week of August. We had made a big deal of it, but when time went by and the summer came things were changing and the circumstance appeared that we had to move end of July.

I really felt impressed to pack already in June, didn’t think much about it; just did it. We hadn’t talked about the conference, but assuming that we wouldn’t go. Guess what? On the day of our moving; it was a very warm day two friends walked into the house.  Two friends that we hadn’t seen for a long time came and told us that the Lord had woken them up that night (two brothers) and had told them to pay for our trip to Dallas. They paid for the airfare, a 5 star hotel, a car, for the gas, for the food and some money to spend for a family of four. That is how good our God is!

That was something that we hadn’t experienced before. It was an awesome feeling to know that my prayers were answered. If I had not packed in June already, things would have been very unorganized, I can tell you that. So, these guys helped us move until late at night. The next morning they picked us up and brought us to the airport and off we went! I can tell you, that He is faithful and He comes through! It was a miracle! We had an incredible time in Dallas, met some friends and were so refreshed because of all the preaching that had been going on.

Step 6: Meditate on the Promises

Prov. 4:20-22 tells us to listen well to His words and to tune our ears to His voice and to keep His message in plain view at all times. Concentrate! Learn it by heart! Meditate on the promises on which you base your answer to prayer. See yourself as if you already have it and make plans as if it already were a reality. God will make His Word good if you will act on it.

If you are sick see yourself healed, if you are broke see yourself rich. Visualize yourself successful!
If you don’t stand by the Word, God can’t stand by you, even though He wants to. He moves in line with His Word.

Step 7: Give God the Praise

Phil 4:6 tells us to not fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting Him know your concerns. As long as we fret and are anxious, praying and fasting won’t do any good.

So do the opposite, start praising and thanking God. When you start thanking, you know in your heart that you truly believe and that you will receive it. This is the final step of prayer, that we lift our hearts up to Him in gratitude for what He has done and for what He is going to do for you now.

Andrew Murray said, “It is not good taste to ask God for the same thing over and over again”. I have to agree with him. If I kept asking my husband over and over for something that I really needed and he already promised to give it to me the first time; who would be the most disturbed about it do you think? Not I, because I really want to have it. He would be the one who would be most disturbed; because that would tell him that I don’t trust him. It would be better to be talking about it with excitement and thanking him for it and so on, right?

Question: Do you have a great testimony that you would love to share with us and our readers to give Glory to God? Let us know by leaving a comment. Thank you!

URGENT Prayer Alert On Behalf Of Israel [video]

Pastor John and Diana Hagee and I are calling for urgent prayer on behalf of Israel. Many Palestinians call this Sunday, May 15, “Catastrophe Day,” as they commemorate the establishment of the State of Israel. News media has shared that demonstrations will start Friday against Israel. And, the Muslim Brotherhood has called for an invasion of Israel on May 15. ( Click here to read details of the potential attack and its historical significance.)

Israel is preparing to guard its nation and people from harm. Please agree with them by praying for peace and safety for all Israeli soldiers. Pray for the protection of Israel’s borders from attack and the protection of its people from any harm. God has miraculously protected His people in the past. He can and will protect them again! Prayer for Israel

During This Time: Father God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, we call upon You to intervene on behalf of Your people, Israel. It is You Lord God who sends help to those in distress; deliver Your Chosen from the wrath of the ungodly. We ask that You place Your supernatural protection over those who are preparing to guard Israel and the people against an enemy whose intent is destruction of Your Chosen. Lord God of Israel we call upon You to protect Your land which You have given to Your people as their inheritance. May the enemies of Israel be kept powerless by Your mighty hand, for You are her Rock and her Fortress and You dwell in her palaces; Your presence surrounds Israel like a shield.

We give You thanks with grateful hearts for the miracles that You will perform on behalf of the Jewish people and the land of Israel for You are her refuge and her strength and a very present help in trouble. Amen.

Your Place In The Heart Of The Father

Do You Know That The Lord Longs To Have Fellowship With You?

Your Place In The Heart Of The Father

by Olga Hermans

You have to know the place that you have in the Heart of the Father. If you are you hungry for God; it is a lot easier when you know that you have such a huge place in the heart of the Father. It takes away all of the unworthiness that might be there, it takes away all of the condemnation that might be there, it takes away everything that would block us from approaching Him, it takes away the bad fear out of fearing God.

I am not talking about honoring God, but I am talking about people that are just plain afraid of God. They are in a place where they don’t feel they can come boldly to the throne. Why can you come boldly to the throne? Because of your place in the heart of the Father.

If you are a parent you know this where your children are concerned. Your children have a place in our heart. Our children have a place in our heart. I gave birth to two children; they have a very special place in my heart. If this works in the natural, how much more does it work in the spiritual?

We need to have an understanding and a revelation of our place in the heart of the Father. Gen.3:7-9 says: And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, “Where are you”?

God was not angry when He said that. No, He was looking for His friend. He was looking for the ones that He was communing with and having these special times with; He was looking for them and said: “where are you?”

You know what God was doing? He was longing for fellowship. Do you know that the Lord longs to have fellowship with you? He is longing for fellowship with you. Let this scripture just soak into your heart when you read it out loud to yourself!

Isa 30:18 And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

The Lord longs for us and our response to Him should be that we long for Him so that we can experience His matchless, unbroken companionship. He longs for each and every one of us.

God created the universe for the earth. When you go outside, take some time and look up to the sky and watch the stars and realize that God created it all. God created the whole universe as a cradle for the earth, as a holding place for the earth. The universe is actually a coat for the earth that wraps it and embraces it.

And the earth was created for man. The earth was created for us and you and I were created for fellowship with God.

It is very important for you to know what God thinks about you. If you know that, you will experience that there is a very relaxed place for you when you go and fellowship with Him.

After the creation of Adam, the angels began to observe how God treats men. They asked the big question: “what is this man?” Psalm 8:4 Let’s see what the Father thinks about us; it will make it so much easier to fellowship with Him. When you know your place in the Father’s heart, it is easy to fellowship. He not only LOVES you, but He also LIKES you! He likes being with you. It feeds His heart to be around His children.

When you get up tomorrow morning, take some extra time with Him and let Him talk to you. Let Him visit with you because you are in His heart, it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, it doesn’t matter your past, it doesn’t matter what kind of a track record you had; it doesn’t matter because you are in His heart. He is the eternal optimist about you.

He is saying: “You’re going to make it, you are going to fulfill everything that I have called you to do, you going to make it through this. Maybe you have been struggling with something all of your life. He is right there to help you. Some people do something over and over and over again and think that they have no right to go before the Father.

You let Him lift your head up and go back into His presence, because he will never give up on you; NEVER!!He’ll never quit!

The Pauline Prayers

The following prayers which are also known as the “Pauline Prayers”  are taken from the Amplified Bible.

Romans 1:8
First we thank You, Father, through Jesus Christ for all of these for whom we pray.

Philippians 1:2-6
Grace, favor and blessing and heart peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ we speak to each one of these precious ones we are standing in the gap for. We thank God as we remember them in prayer. In every prayer we pray, and every entreaty and petition we make for them is with joy and delight.

We thank You, Lord, for their fellowship—cooperation and contributions and partnership—in advancing the Gospel. And we are convinced and sure of this very thing, that You, Lord, who began a good work in them will continue until the day of Jesus Christ right up to the time of His return, developing that good work and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in Christ.

Philippians 4:6-7
We do not fret nor have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in every prayer and petition we continue with thanksgiving to make our wants known unto You, God. Father, we pray for peace for these, that tranquil state of soul assured of its salvation in Christ, that peace which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 1:12-14
We give You thanks, Heavenly Father, Who has qualified and made us all fit to share the portion which is the inheritance of the saints of light. Thank You, Father, for delivering us and drawing us out of the control and the dominion of darkness and transferring us into the kingdom of the Son of Your love. In whom we all have our redemption through His blood, which means the forgiveness of our sins.

Colossians 4:12
We who are servants of Christ Jesus, will always strive earnestly for these in our prayers, pleading their case that they may, as persons of ripe character and clear conviction stand firm and mature (in spiritual growth), convinced and fully assured in everything willed by God.

Ephesians 1:5-23
For this reason because we have heard of these and the faith they have in the Lord Jesus Christ and their love toward all the saints, We do not cease to give thanks for them, making mention of them in our prayers. Heavenly Father, we pray that You would grant unto us a spirit of wisdom and revelation, of insight into mysteries and secrets, in the deep and intimate knowledge of Christ.

Flood the eyes of our heart with light, so that we can know and understand the hope to which You have called us and how rich is the glorious inheritance that You have in us. And so that we will know and understand what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of Your power in and for us who believe as demonstrated in the working of Your mighty strength, which You exerted in Christ when You raised Him from the dead and seated him at Your own right hand in the heavenly places.

1 Thessalonians 5:17, 23
We pray without ceasing that the very God of peace would sanctify us through and through, that is separate us from profane things, make us pure and wholly consecrated to You, God and may our whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

Ephesians 3:12, 14-21
In Christ, because of our faith in Him, we dare to have the boldness, courage and confidence of free access, an unreserved approach to You, Father God, with freedom and without fear. For this reason (seeing the greatness of Your plan by which we are built together in Christ), we bow our knees before You, heavenly Father. Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.

That, Father God, You would grant these for whom we pray out of the rich treasury of Your glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in their inner man by the Holy Spirit Himself. May Christ through our faith actually dwell, settle down, abide, make His permanent home in our hearts! May we be rooted in love and founded securely on love.

That we may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints of God, the experience of that love what is the breadth and length and height and depth of it. That we will really come to know, practically, through experience for themselves the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge without experience; that we may be filled through all our being unto all the fullness of God that is, may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself.

Now unto You, Father Who is able to carry out Your purpose and do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask or think, infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams according to the power that works in us.

Philippians 1:8-11
For God is our witness how we long for and pursue these with love, in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus Himself! And this we pray, that our love may abound yet more and more and extend to its fullest development in knowledge and all keen insight, that is, that our love may display itself in greater depths of acquaintance and more comprehensive discernment; So that we may surely learn to sense what is vital and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value, recognizing the highest and best, and distinguishing the moral differences; and that we may be untainted and pure and unerring and blameless, that with hearts sincere and certain and unsullied we may approach the day of Christ, not stumbling nor causing others to stumble.

May we abound in and be filled with the fruits of righteousness (of right standing with God and right doing) which come through Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, to the honor and praise of God that His glory may be both manifested and recognized.

Colossians 1:3, 9-11
We continually give thanks to You, God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ the Messiah, as we are interceding for these. We will not cease to pray and make special request for us, asking that we may be filled with the full deep and clear knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom (that is, in the comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things; That we may walk and live and conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to You, Lord, and desiring to please You, Lord, in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God—with fuller, deeper and clearer insight, acquaintance and recognition.

We pray that we may be invigorated and strengthened with all power, according to the might of Your glory, so that we may exercise every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance with joy).

2 Thessalonians 3:1
Finally, we pray that the word of the Lord may have free course (speed on, spread rapidly and run its course) and be glorified, extolled and triumph in the lives of each and every one that we have named (and not named) this day before Your throne! In the Name of Jesus. Amen and so be it.

3 Elements That Are Essential To Supernatural Prayer

There are three elements that are essential to supernatural prayer: faith, the Word and the Holy Spirit.

Faith

Praying Involves A Supernatural Move Of God

Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” In recent times, some people in the body of Christ have tried to separate the prayer of faith from other kinds of prayers and put it in a category by itself. But the truth is, you always have to travel in faith no matter what kind of praying you are doing.

I like to think of faith as the vehicle that gets your prayers where they’re going. If you don’t use that vehicle, they won’t ever get there. What’s more, the higher your faith level is, the faster and more effective your prayers will be. You might say, the level of your faith will determine whether they go by pony express or by the Concorde.

So to pray supernaturally, you’re going to have to constantly cultivate your faith by staying in the Word of God. [Read more…]

7 Thoughts on Prayer

"I Would Rather Teach One Man To Pray Than Ten Men To Preach." (Charles Spurgeon)

7 Thoughts on Prayer

This article presents seven simple thoughts on prayer, and then shares insights from different individuals. I didn’t feel that a lot of explanation or amplification was needed on these.

1. Prayer is not a religious ritual.

“Real prayer comes not from gritting our teeth, but from falling in love.” (Richard Foster)

“I live in the spirit of prayer. I pray as I walk about, when I lie down and when I rise up. And the answers are always coming.” (George Mueller)

“Unless I had the spirit of prayer, I could do nothing.” (Charles G. Finney)

“Beloved, it is not our long prayers but our believing God that gets the answer.” (John G. Lake)

“There is no need to get to a place of prayer; pray wherever you are.” (Oswald Chambers)

2. Prayer is not a one-way conversation.

“God must speak to us before we have any liberty to speak to him.” (John Stott)

“The true spirit of prayer is no other than God’s own Spirit dwelling in the hearts of the saints. And as this spirit comes from God, so doth it naturally tend to God in holy breathings and pantings. It naturally leads to God, to converse with him by prayer.”
(Jonathan Edwards)

Jesus said in John 15:7, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

3. Prayer is not a matter of talking an unwilling God into doing what you want Him to do.

“Prayer is not conquering God’s reluctance, but taking hold of God’s willingness.”
(Phillips Brooks)

“Prayer is not a means by which I seek to control God; it is a means of putting myself in a position where God can control me.” (Charles L. Allen)

“A sinning man will stop praying. A praying man will stop sinning.” (Leonard Ravenhill)

“I can no longer condemn or hate a brother for whom I pray, no matter how much trouble he causes me. His face, that hitherto may have been strange and intolerable to me, is transformed into the countenance of a brother for whom Christ died, the face of a forgiven sinner.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

Remember, we don’t pray to change God. Prayer allows God to change me.

4. Prayer is not a substitute for action.

“Prayer will become effective when we stop using it as a substitute for obedience.” (A.W. Tozer)

“I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.” (Frederick Douglass)

“We Christians too often substitute prayer for playing the game. Prayer is good; but when used as a substitute for obedience, it is nothing but a blatant hypocrisy, a despicable Pharisaism…To your knees, man! and to your Bible! Decide at once! Don’t hedge! Time flies! Cease your insults to God, quit consulting flesh and blood. Stop your lame, lying, and cowardly excuses. Enlist!” (C.T. Studd)

5. Prayer is not informing God about things He didn’t know.

“Prayer is not designed to inform God, but… to humble man’s heart, to excite his desire, to inflame his faith, to animate his hope, and to raise his soul from earth to heaven.” (Adam Clarke)

6. Prayer is not an exercise is hyper-technical precision.

Some get excessively concerned about technicalities when they pray. Granted, we want to pray accurately, according to the truth of Scripture, and according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. But people can get so caught up in hyper-technicalities that they get off track when it comes to simply trusting God.

• Was I binding when I should have been loosing?
• Was I interceding when I should have been supplicating?
• Was I praying to the Father when I should have been talking to Jesus?

As Corrie Ten Boom said, “Nestle, don’t wrestle.” The simplicity of David’s faith is expressed beautifully in Psalm 131:1-2 (NLT): “I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.”

7. Prayer is not a peripheral activity of the church.

“Prayer is not just getting ready for Christian service. Prayer is Christian service.”
(Adrian Rodgers)

“It is obvious that Paul did not regard prayer as supplemental, but as fundamental—not something to be added to his work but the very matrix out of which his work was born. He was a man of action because he was a man of prayer. It was probably his prayer even more than his preaching that produced the kind of leaders we meet in his letters.” (Oswald Sanders, from Dynamic Spiritual Leadership)

“I would rather teach one man to pray than ten men to preach.” (Charles Spurgeon)

“You could remove the powerful preaching from our church and it would still continue. You could remove the administration of pastoral care through the cell group system and the church would still continue. But if you remove the prayer life of our church it would collapse.” (David Yonggi Cho)

How To Have A Relationship With God

How To Have A Relationship With God

God has a desire for a relationship with us. It is good to focus on God’s desire for a relationship as supposed taking it from the perspective of “I am going for God, I am going after God.” I heard a great sermon form Pastor George Pearsons of Eagle Mountain International Church about how to have a relationship With God; he said that God had challenged him to look at the perspective of how much God desires to have a relationship with us. God wants us to see His side of the fellowship. That is a different point of view on how to build a relationship with God.

So often we have a perspective of God sitting on the throne in that huge authoritative way and that we are the ones  always approaching Him . We even might have a Wizard of Oz perspective on what God is all about.

Do you remember the moment when Dorothy and the Tin Man (Haley) and all the rest came up into the castle? When they went into the throne room they were looking at that fire that was came out of there and heard: “don’t come near the fire”. Of course they were standing there shaking. I think that is sometimes the perspective that people have of God, whether it is knowingly or unknowingly, consciously or subconsciously that we have that attitude towards God.

There is a place where the Lord is saying to us: “I want you to come this time from the perspective of my passion for you, my hunger for you, my desire for you.” God wants to have a sweet communion with us.

Unfortunately there is too often that sense of unworthiness. We think that we are not worthy to have that, but that’s why we are made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

The universe was created to cradle this earth. The entire universe was made in order to place this earth there. Te earth was created by God for men, for us. And we were created by God for fellowship with Him.

Do you remember the moment when Dorothy and the Tin Man (Haley) and all the rest came up into the castle, when they went into the throne room they were looking at that fire that was came out of there and heard: “don’t come near the fire”. Of course they were standing there shaking. I think that is sometimes the perspective that people have of God, whether it is knowingly or unknowingly, consciously or subconsciously that we have that perspective of God.

In our own development of our own passion that we have towards God we should learn of the passion that God has for us. The greatest thing that God has in the entire universe is fellowshipping with us. That is quite a thought isn’t it? He wants to have koinonia with us. We have been called in this close companionship, this sweet communion. He wants that intimate relationship, He wants a personal friendship.

The more we realize His passion to have a deeper relationship with us, the more we will experience our greater desire to have a deeper relationship with Him. The more you know that He wants you, the more you will want Him. The more you understand the pursuit that God has. It is the best approach on building a relationship with God.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life in psalm 23. The word “follow” here means “to chase after, to run after and to pursuit.” Surely, God in the form of goodness and mercy is after you and pursuing you. HE LIKES YOU!

Even if you don’t have a full understanding about the word “LOVE”; it might help you to define your relationship with God even more. It is really something when somebody comes up to you and says “I like you”. It builds you up and it is very encouraging. It should have the same impact when they tell you, that they love you.

You have to get that understanding down on the inside of you that God likes you! All sense of unworthiness will dissipate and disappear the more you know how much He likes you and how much He wants to spend time with you. It is really something when you know that somebody wants to spend time with you.

You know, I love to spend time with my family and even more with my husband and when I am not really sure that he wants to spend time with me for some reason; I am disappointed. But God always wants to spend time with us, always! He has so many things He wants to talk to us about. That motivates you spend time with somebody. Knowing that God longs to spend time with you is the key on how to have a relationship with God.

It’s up to our choices, we have the opportunity to choose to give our attention to Him and be with Him. Psalm 46 says Be still and know that I am God. To listen in His presence to things that He wants to tell us; one of the things is that when we tell Him how much we love Him and be still before Him to hear Him say “I love you too.”
